Rock-lined Beds & Pathways + Irrigation +Turf Removal
Reclaiming long turfed over areas and turning them into active gardens for beauty, edibles, medicinals, insectory pollination and habitat.
This client was a joy to work with, as her vision was quite clear on at least what she didn’t want. After discussing her needs and proposed usage of these areas, we worked together on visioning for three large planting zones that had all been portions of a large lawn.
I chose incorporate landscape stone throughout to give more dimension to these spaces amidst the large swaths of surrounding turf. First, I removed the turf, followed by sheet mulching to prevent any of it from bouncing back through the wood chips that I’d dress it with. It was clear that walking paths would add some whimsy, attract more attention and increase accessibility to these soon-to-be planted zones.
Irrigation was run from a nearby spigot to the areas farthest away to encourage better care and practicality for the sustainability of the garden. Flagstone steps were installed on the longest path inviting easier passage through the garden from the driveway.
Medicinal herbs were planted in the corner garden, the others to be curated at a later date.
